G. S. Fruits started in January 2013 with a single shop at 43/1 in Ahmedabad’s New Fruit Market on Naroda Road. Thirteen seasons later it is still the same shop, the same family and the same way of working — fruit graded honestly, auctioned openly, and accounted for to the rupee.
The firm opened in January 2013 as a commission agent — an aadatiya — for growers who needed someone in Ahmedabad to stand behind their consignment. The first seasons were built on pomegranate and mosambi, sold lot by lot to buyers who came to the shop because the grading held up.
Word travels quickly in a mandi. Guava, custard apple, grapes and elaichi banana were added as growers asked for them, and the buyer list widened from neighbourhood fruit shops to wholesalers, juice centres and traders shipping out of the city. Around 1,500 buyers and growers have traded through the shop since.
G. S. Fruits is both a merchant and a commission agent. We buy outright when a buyer needs a guaranteed load, and we auction on commission when a grower wants the market to set the rate. Either way the fruit is graded before it is called, and the account is written the same day.
None of these are difficult. They are simply the things a mandi runs on once you strip the noise away.
Growers see the lot, the weight, the buyer’s rate and every deduction itemised. Nothing is adjusted quietly afterwards.
Sorting a consignment properly costs an hour and earns the grower more than the hour is worth. We have never treated it as optional.
The same family has answered the same phone since 2013. There is no call centre between a grower and the person selling their fruit.
Payment cycles are set before the consignment moves, and they are kept. That is the whole reason growers send a second truck.

Both. As a merchant we buy consignments outright when a grower wants certainty or a buyer wants a guaranteed load. As a commission agent we auction the lot and pass the market rate through, deducting only the agreed commission and actual mandi charges.
On the buying side we work in crates and boxes rather than kilos — most retail buyers pick up between one and fifty packages a morning. On the grower side, a part-truck consignment is perfectly normal.
The patti — the itemised account — is prepared the same day the lot is sold. Payment follows on the cycle agreed before the consignment was sent, which is usually within a week.
Yes. We book vehicles from the market to buyers across Ahmedabad and out to other Gujarat towns. Freight is charged at actuals and shown separately on the account.
Pomegranate, guava, elaichi banana, custard apple, mosambi and grapes are our regular lines. Mango, chikoo, watermelon, pineapple, apple, orange and papaya run alongside them through their seasons.
